TOKYO - Japan Meteorological Agency says a strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 shook northeastern Japan, the same region devastated by the earthquake and tsunami on last March.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage caused by the earthquake on Saturday afternoon, and no tsunami warning was issued.
The earthquake was centered 25 miles (40 kilometers) below the seabed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Miyagi prefecture - in the same region where more than 22,000 people were killed or missing after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
