Parts of southern California have been record rainfall in the storm on Sunday uprooted trees, knocked out power for thousands and dumped 2 feet of wet snow on the vine, traffic at night.

Downtown Los Angeles received 2.42 inches of rain since midnight, almost an inch more than the previous record for the date in 1943, the National Weather Service numbers show. Camarillo Airport recorded 4.91 inches, while a station of Santa Barbara Airport measuring 5.23 inches of rain, two records each day.

Hurricane force wind gusts up to 98 mph roared through passes while gusts up to 70 mph toppled trees across the urban landscape of Southern California. Snow began falling in the vine around 18 and Sunday from California Highway Patrol closed overnight in both directions
