Wes lifted by his teammate

Last night, March 3, 2011, Wes Leonard suffered a cardiac arrest at the gym in Fennville High School after scoring the winning layup that ended a perfect season undefeated.

After his winning move, the players were celebrating on the basketball court. Suddenly Wes Leonard, 16, collapsed.See Wes Leonard scoring the winning basket.

Paramedics arrived at school and performed CPR but were unable to revive him. Wes was pronounced dead at a hospital near Holland.

An autopsy was performed today, Friday, and the Ottawa County coroner, said that Wes had an enlarged heart.

Besides being an excellent basketball player who broke the 1,000 career points in high school at the beginning of the season, Wes Leonard was star quarterback for the Fennville football team.
