Luke Matheny, the surprise winner who has won the award for live action short with "God of Love" on Sunday, is a graduate student in the program of film at New York University. It is therefore safe to say he was out of his comfort zone at the star-prestigious event.
On the red carpet before the Academy Awards broadcast, Matheny admitted he was "behind Robert Downey Jr., trying to get on TV."
And at the luncheon of candidates earlier this month, the student was also dazzled.
"When you're in a room and there is a famous person, it is very distracting,"he said backstage. "But the candidates luncheon was wall to wall, and I kind of clicked in that other level of reality."
Matheny new reality has not yet set, he said, despite the deluge of congratulations he was already receiving from his friends and family.
