The modular data center designs continue to evolve. Telecommunications in the United Kingdom and managed hosting provider Colt has introduced an enhanced version of its modular data center that offers a greater variety of sizes and configurations. The design uses pre-assembled components that are manufactured in factories, but can then be assembled into data center on site.

Last Colt "cut" design provides users more options in combining modules to create data centers with a power density of desired size and configuration level. The new models introduced today at datacentres Europe 2011 in France, go beyond the original bid last year Colt, who created a center size to 500 square meters (5,400 square feet). The new form factors modules allow customers to create rooms meter data 125, 250 and 375 square and gradually scale their installations increments by snapping on additional modules. Also allows a range of power densities between 750 watts to 3 kilowatts per square meter (about 275 watts per square foot) in any place of the Tier I level IV classficiation level of the Uptime Institute.
